What is SMS.net?

SMS.net is a programming interface for sending and receiving SMS messages, intended for integration with information systems that need to communicate over SMS. That communication can be simple — a notice that goods have arrived or that stock has reached a critical level — but the full strength of the service lies in interactive, two-way communication.

Behind the SMS.net service stands the oneVoice communication platform, which includes a web-based workflow designer. With a few clicks of the mouse it lets you build complete applications — branching, menus, automated replies and many other scenarios with advanced SMS functionality.

What is SMS.net used for?

Most customers use the SMS.net service to send notices automatically — just as your bank tells you by SMS about changes on your account, companies that have integrated the SMS.net service with their information system can send their own customers notifications about business events the moment those events are recorded.

An application can also use two-way communication — a user sends an SMS asking for some piece of information, after which the SMS.net service forwards the query to your information system (based on a keyword in the incoming SMS), which then looks the information up and returns it to the user through the SMS.net service.

Uses of the SMS.net service so far range from simply sending notices to complete applications, such as the HatTrick betting system that lets customers check their betting results by SMS. The flexibility of the system makes it entirely open — for simpler notices it is enough to call the SMS.net service over the http protocol and the SMS message goes out to your customer (a custom, alphanumeric Caller ID is supported as well, so the sender number can be your company name).
